Hello! As we’ve had our fair share of warm sunny days in the UK recently, I thought it would be a great idea to share my top summer skincare and make up tips.
1) Make up but not really? Use a tinted BB cream instead of a foundation
I find foundation to be just too thick and heavy for hot summer days. It just melts off my face and makes me regret even putting on in the first place! Therefore, a tinted BB cream does a good enough job for me in the sunshine. I use the Fresh Nude BB Cream (above) from The Body Shop for it has just enough colour to provide a light amount of coverage and is really easy to apply evenly. It doesn’t dry up and stays put, which is great. Even better, this one is SPF 30, which is some decent sun protection for my medium-toned skin.
£14.99 for 25ml at The Body Shop.
2) Use a matte setting spray
Summer make up is always more high maintenance. At a time when make up has less staying power, a matte setting spray becomes all the more essential. For a budget setting spray that doesn’t break the bank, I can recommend the COLLECTION Primed & Ready Make Up Fixing Spray.
£5.99 from Superdrug.
3) Want a gradual tan?
Palmer’s Coconut Oil Natural Bronze Body Lotion is a great pick if you want a vegetable-based tanning lotion that has a gradual and natural-looking effect. It is quick drying, really nourishing and has a lovely scent – mmm coconut. I got this from my July GLOSSYBOX and I love it!
£3.95 for 250ml at Superdrug.
4) Use face sunscreen!
Trust me, you’ll thank yourself in a few years. When I stumbled upon the Mimitika Face Sunscreen (which is SPF50!!), I was so happy I could apply a sunscreen (with vitamin E in it) that actually felt like my moisturizer. I use this on every sunny day and I know it’s doing good. It leaves a soft touch to your face and doesn’t smell like sunscreen, so I cannot recommend this enough!
£17.50 for 50ml – from my Birchbox subscription.TIP: If you buy the full-size product from The Birchbox Shop (while you’re a subscriber) then you get a handy 10% discount – nice!
I also wrote about this product in my skincare recommendations post, which you can check out here.
5) Use a waterproof mascara (so you don’t sweat it all off)
Summers are sweaty, and that can also affect the look of your mascara. You don’t want it going everywhere and smudging, so a waterproof mascara is definitely the way to go for staying power. I use the Beautaniq Beauty Nourishing Mascara for how it stays on all day and feels quite moisturising. I got a smaller size version from Birchbox and it’s the only waterproof mascara I use now for how apt it is in summer and for how good it looks!
