Stoke Newington Vegan Market
Life Itself!

Local Loves: the Stoke Newington Vegan Market (5th August)

London’s Stoke Newington is home to a wonderful array of enterprises. Yesterday, Abney Hall held their annual vegan market. It featured a brilliant selection of vegan goods and treats, and I wish I could have tried all of them! The event was a fundraiser for Stokey Cats… and dogs, a local volunteer group who help to find lost cats and dogs, as well as find a new home for those without one. Now, let me take you through the event and some of the glorious stalls that set up shop there.

The Organisers: Cafe SoVegan

Cafe SoVegan

Cafe SoVegan were the market’s organisers. They sell an array of delicious dishes such as vegan mac and cheese (which has been appropriately named “mac ‘no’ cheese”), and a lovely variety of seitan wraps. They hold an admired place on the Hackney food market scene, and once you try their food, you’ll understand why! For more info about Cafe SoVegan, including where to find them, click here.

Cat cake

The cafe’s owner, Michelle Pascal-O’Mahoney, also made this amazing cat for the raffle. It certainly looked too good to eat!

Stokey Cats… and dogs: looking out for local cats and dogs

Stokey Cats and Dogs

Stokey Cats… and dogs go out of their way to help find and re-home lost and abandoned cats and dogs in Stoke Newington and in the surrounding areas. This also includes taking them to the vet for medical attention, as well as looking for possible foster carers to give them the love and attention they deserve. Get ready for some serious cheese: Black Arts Vegan & I AM NUT OK

Black Arts Vegan

Yep, you got that right. Black Arts Vegan and I AM NUT OK sell artisan cheese! When going vegan, many are shocked at how many products (that aren’t necessarily dairy products) contain milk. So, enterprises such as these are brilliant for giving vegans the opportunity to enjoy cheese while still eating ethically. Click here to check out some of Black Arts Vegan‘s products, and click here to check out I AM NUT OK.

Animal Allies

Animal Allies

Animal Allies sell ethically-made and pro-animal rights tees which are a real hit! They are really cool, so check out their Etsy page here.  Click here to like and follow them on Facebook.

And more…

So that’s my report of the Stoke Newington Vegan Market, and all of the wonderful enterprises that continue to enrich the lives of vegans (and non-vegans) across Hackney. Special thanks to Cafe SoVegan for organising the event!

Stay tuned for more hip happenings in Stoke Newington, my beloved hometown!
